Piracy clampdown in Latvia

Latvian State Police have detained three individuals suspected of illegally distributing pay-TV signals in the capital Riga and environs.

In a statement, they say that in the course of their investigation “injured parties” to these activities, or more specifically “at least two representatives of television programs or subjects of related rights”, suffered losses amounting to at least €19,680.

They add that the individuals face the prospect of up to four years in prison, temporary custodial sentence, forced labour or a fine.
