An official police account has apologised after retweeting an illegal stream of Saturday night's pay-per-view fight between Anthony Joshua and Carlos Takam.

Avon and Somerset Police's Operational Support account retweeted a Periscope link to the heavyweight bout which was being shown exclusively on Sky Sports Box Office for a fee of £19.95.

As if the posting of pirated material wasn't bad enough, that particular Periscope stream was broadcasting pornography in between rounds of the Cardiff clash.

The link was in place on the account's feed for almost an hour before those running the page were made aware of the error.

A spokesperson put the retweet down to "human error" and assured that "appropriate precautions" would be taken to prevent a repeat of such an offence.

"We are aware that last night a spam link, containing inappropriate content, was accidentally retweeted on one of our official A&S Police Twitter accounts," a statement said, via BBC.

"Unfortunately, this was due to human error and the account user was unaware that it had happened.

"The post containing the offending link was removed within an hour, as soon as we became aware of the matter.

"We would like to thank those who brought it to our attention and we apologise for any offence that may have been caused through the sharing of this content."
