Security Update

We are always looking for ways to improve Empornium. This means improving both the performance of the site as well as keeping it safe and secure for everyone. Over the past few years, since Empornium became an invite only private tracker, the value of our accounts has increased and thus unscrupulous hackers have been stealing and selling accounts. Staff have been working hard to prevent this activity.

Some of you have experienced a new system we have been testing on the site, which integrates a service called HaveIBeenPwned. HaveIBeenPwned is a free service which allows you to search for the presence of your email or password in known breeches or hack dumps. These compromised emails and passwords pose risk to the site. Tracking down and eliminating these security threats makes it much easier to ensure that accounts are secure.

This is where we now need your help and co-operation.

To ensure the security of all accounts, beginning on January 1st 2019 we will be enabling HaveIBeenPwned password checks on all logins, if your password is found to be compromised you will be required to set a new one via the forgotten password function from the login page. In order to perform a successful reset you must have a working and accessible email registered with us.

If you do not know what your registered email is, or if you no longer have access to it, you will need to update this. This can easily be done on the security page found under the dropdown menu in the upper-right hand corner of the site. If you need some guidance on how to use the security page you can read the tutorial: Article: Security Page Tutorial

Note - You can add multiple email addresses and any one of them can be used to reset your account password.

Staff will be available via IRC to provide support on a first come first serve basis but it is better to avoid the need for such support by ensuring you have a valid email registered and that your password is secure.

Please be aware that the following email providers do not accept emails from us, we are working to resolve this situation:

  • gmx
  • mail.com

Finally, this is a reminder that we do offer two factor authentication here. 2FA is the absolute best way to ensure that your Empornium account remains secure. This can also be set up through your security page. We encourage everyone to enable 2FA on their account.

Thank you for your co-operation.
