Here comes the latest cool addition from Nokia which could mean a major breakthrough in how we use our mobile phones – Nokia Instant Community (NIC) – a service developed in collaboration with Tampere University of Technology (TUT) designed to let you chat and share content with other users around you instantly.

How it works – Using the Wi-Fi chip in your handset, NIC can set up an adhoc wireless network with other devices, which means you’ll be able not only to talk but also instantly share files with people you want.

The new service whose technology was developed by Nokia Research Center aims at meeting the social networking needs of the mobile phone users – it enables instant messaging and file sharing with devices in close proximity, without having to pay network charges or consume your text allowance.

While currently a prototype, Nokia Instant Community looks quite promising (watch the video below):
