New 'Mega' service to accept the unregulated 'BitCoin' currency

Kim Dotcom has recently announced that new Mega cloud storage service is going to accept the BitCoin currency. The portal founder has made a habit of annoying the governments and proves it by embracing an unregulated virtual currency.

In the meantime, much like Kim Dotcom, BitCoin is also trying to shed its shady image, normally associated with less than legal practices. For example, last week Reddit officially announced that it will accept BitCoin payments, followed by WordPress which also embraced the digital currency a while ago.

A new file-sharing service currently offers 50GB of free storage, as well as several tiers for users who need more space and do not mind paying for it. As for the currency, the exchange rate for one BitCoin is about $25. In other words, the cheapest Mega package, which is currently priced at €9.99, will cost around 0.5 of a BitCoin. Those users who choose to pay with BitCoin will need to access BitVoucher in order to make the transaction.

It seems that Mega is off to a quite good start, while Reddit and WordPress remain heavyweights in their own right. Of course, the fact that an ever increasing number of legal online businesses are planning to accept BitCoin payments can only mean well for the virtual currency.

Moreover, the press reports confirm that an increasing number of merchants and even bankers also started to consider BitCoin. Nevertheless, it’s still too early to say if it is just a fad or really a viable alternative to such recognized currency as dollars and euros. In the meantime, the virtual currency is already doing well – it was revealed that a BitCoin casino managed to earn $500,000 in the last 6 months.

How many of you are using BitCoin? Do you see it being a viable and new way to trade online?
