MultiChoice owns the FIFA World Cup TV rights for Ghana via its SuperSport suite of channels, and last week obtained an injunction against Fly TV for allegedly pirating the FIFA football signals.

Fly TV is owned by Nour Vision Ghana, and MultiChoice states that Nour have not acquired broadcast rights either for pay-TV or free-to-air transmissions.

According to Tony Forson, legal counsel for MultiChoice Ghana, after studying the necessary documentation “we carried out the instructions of our client and successfully secured an injunction barring Fly TV from any further broadcast of the FIFA World Cup until the final determination of the case.”

Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, MultiChoice Ghana, added: “We will continue to collaborate with the necessary authorities to initiate civil suits to protect its content from illegal broadcasting/re-broadcasting and support the growth of both the local and international creative industry and talent.”
