The shutting down of Kickass Torrents, The Pirate Bay, Torrentz.eu made great a noise online, leading to various commentaries and even proxy sites being established. And now with the latest turn of events surrounding Kickass Torrents and its alleged founder's legal battle, loyal KAT users are now wondering what will happen next to the said website.

Various speculations are being made online, although it still not confirmed whether the alleged owner of Kickass Torrents arrested back in July, Artem Vaulin, is really the founder of the website. Despite the uncertainty enveloping the identity of the accused, his legal defense is quite confident that his client and the Kickass Torrents site is not guilty of copyright infringement.

The lead legal counsel of Vaulin, Ira Rothkin, is quite confident that the allegations of the U.S. Government concerning criminal conduct are flawed, for his client did not commit any of the crimes being attributed to him.

"We believe the US criminal complaint lacks merit. Torrent sites and trackers are devoid of any content files. If any infringement occurs it happens offsite and leaves Kickasstorrents behind," Rothken informs TorrentFreak.

"Therefore, given the lack of direct willful copyright infringement, torrent sites do not violate criminal copyright laws," the defense noted.

With the assurance being given by the legal counsel of Kickass Torrents, it seems like KAT user will soon regain access to one of their main sources for BitTorrent files. However, such time for rejoicing might be postponed for a bit, for U.S. Government is expected to counter the claims of KAT's legal counsel in the coming weeks.

And with the question on whether the original site of Kickass Torrents will be operating again if they would be winning the case, there is still no definite answer about it being given. As of now, what is currently being used are the mirror or proxy sites which promise similar functionality and effect.

Still, some suspicions and doubts are being raised regarding the quality and security of these proxy and mirror sites, especially that some users are still used to the original Kickass Torrents sites for their music, movie, and other download queries. But it seems like users would have to get used to this proxy sites for the return of the original site might improbable for now.

And as an alternative to Kickass Torrents, The Pirate Bay, and Torrentz site, Unblocked.ist is offering a list of proxy sites for streaming and torrent downloads. However, a certain caution should be exercised in accessing proxy sites, for its reliability and efficiency has not yet been thoroughly tested and proven by most users.
