Hadopi : Convictions for illegal downloads on the rise
In eight years of existence, the balance sheet Hadopi is mixed : while 9.6 million e-mails (warning and reminder) were sent, only 138 convictions were obtained.
However, the situation heats up on the front of the fight against illegal downloads, with convictions strong increase on the first six months of the year 2017.
9.6 million emails sent
Eight years ago, the Hadopi law against illegal downloading was enacted. A law that established an independent public authority, the High authority for dissemination of works and protection of rights on Internet (HADOPI), responsible inter alia for the fight against piracy. And if some people are predicting the coming end of the device, mainly for reasons of budget, teams of Hadopi are far from having been idle, as evidenced by the impressive number of mails sent.
In fact, in the space of eight years, 8.8 million of warning e-mails have been sent, to whom it is necessary to add at least 800,000 reminders, a total of 9.6 million emails !
Convictions on the rise
At the end of the year 2016, only 72 convictions were handed down through the Hadopi law. But on the first few months of the year 2017, a number almost equivalent of convictions has been performed, a sign of the willingness of the authorities to intensify the fight against illegal downloads. In fact, according to the figures of June 2017 published by NextInpact, 66 convictions were obtained between January and June 2017. Thus, if the 138 convictions that have been performed in eight years, 47.8 per cent have been in the space of only six months !
An exponential increase in convictions, including the explanation would be related to the optimization of methods of work of the infrastructure Hadopi, who have adopted a new system of treatment and information, visibly effective…
