Google is a search engine the algorithm of which is famous for its pruned search results based on the query placed on its search bar by an individual or otherwise. It has earned a name and fame for itself over the years and has won over the people’s trust all over the world beyond doubt.

Why did Google show arrogance?

There’s no denying the fact that Google enjoys a monopoly or at best you can say oligopoly position in its line of business which is simply superb and unmatched in terms of quality and speed. Naturally, when Google was asked to remove The Pirate Bay homepage from its search results Google was very much prompt and in upfront denial mode since The Pirate Bay owned by torrent doesn’t link up with any copyright infringement on its homepage.

Effects of anti-piracy initiatives:

The flip side of the anti-piracy movement has been overwhelming as well as destructive since it targets to blanket all and sundry in fear of copyrights infringement without realizing the truth. The fact that led to this impromptu and untoward situation is copyright holders in an effort to minimize piracy have resorted to sending millions of takedown notices to Google every month which in effect has put burden on the Google.

Music Industry group BPI have been one of the most ardent senders of such takedown notices to Google and in the last year alone they sent somewhere near 30 million URLs for takedown and every time Google obliged them even though the tasks were too tough to be complied with.

In September 2013 Google however refused to takedown The Pirate Bay out of more than 2000 URLs recommended and clarified its position through a statement that said The Pirate Bay homepage wasn’t a harmful one and therefore the homepage of The Pirate Bay would remain intact in its search results. That’s Google’s commitment and firmness to its business ethics and principle. Congrats!!!
