Updated Donation System

We've been working on a new donation system that's finally ready to roll out! Donations now award donor points and a permanent donor level that unlocks new tiers of donor hearts for everyone to admire. You can read more about the new rewards and donor tiers in the Donor Perks wiki article.

So, what's changed?
Previously, the benefits included inactivity immunity, Gamer site permissions, the ability to change your custom title, as well as 2 invites for each donation over $**. With the new system, donations will still include immunity from Inactivity and Gamer site permissions. However, the other benefits are replaced with a much improved points and tier system that scale to the donation amount. The higher the donation, the more points and donation levels will be awarded — and even smaller donations will receive benefits that can add up over time. Of course, invites and the ability to edit custom titles are still obtainable, but can now be purchased directly from the Donor shop page. For those that prefer staying anonymous and don't want their donor heart to reflect the total amount of donations, the user settings contain a toggle to only show the old default donor heart.

Overall, users that donate now receive slightly better rewards in comparison to the previous system, but more importantly, it's now possible to choose any reward you prefer. We've already added a number of items to the store, and will periodically update it with some new additions, such as equipment dyes, cosmetic effects and many more things! In addition, we're open to any suggestions, so if you have a good idea or some fancy art for a new donor item, head on over to the Items System forum and post your idea!

Looking ahead
As some might have noticed already, the donation amount is pretty high this month thanks to a number of donations from our generous users. We are very thankful for any donation, and quite literally, couldn't keep this community going without you. Fundamentally, donations serve to pay our recurring bills. However, an increase in donations will allow us to look into upgrading existing services or even adding new ones. With an increasingly large userbase and numerous feature requests, additional funds will allow us to consider more options and will ultimately enable us to improve the GGn experience for everyone. In any case, an increase in donations will also allow us to build some reserves, so that we don't have to rely on new donations coming in each month to keep the lights running.

Finally, we would like to emphasize that any donations are appreciated, but as will always be the case, donating will not grant any exemption from our rules. Further, it will never be possible to buy items from the donation store that directly impact user stats. Simply put, it will not be possible to buy upload, download, gold, buffs, or other similar items with donation points.
