Game of Thrones Episode 6 Detail Hints At White Walker Reveal
Game of Thrones Episode 6 Detail Hints At White Walker Reveal
[WARNING: Game of Thrones season 7 spoilers below] A sharp-eyed fan has spotted a potentially vital detail relating to the villainous White Walkers in the promo released by HBO for episode 6 of Game of Thrones season 7. This penultimate season of Game of Thrones has so far focused on finally getting most of the principal cast together and the war between Dany and Cersei. However, fans and Jon Snow (Kit Harington) are aware that the real threat looming to the north is the army of the dead with the mysterious White Walkers and their leader, the equally mysterious Night King. Not much is known about the culture and beliefs of the White Walkers or what exactly their intentions are for Westeros and the rest of the fictional world of Game of Thrones should they get passed the Wall that keeps them out (there are many theories how they could achieve this), but there are a few things that showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have revealed. For instance, at least in the show’s continuity – which has now long since passed George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels – the White Walkers were created by the ancient Children of the Forest far north of the Wall.

Now, Reddit user RKRagan has pointed out a connection to the birthplace of the White Walkers with where Jon Snow and the rest of his fellowship are headed to potentially capture a member of the undead army. Posting a comparison picture on Imgur from season 6 episode “The Door” where the Children of the Forest created the first White Walker alongside another photo for the upcoming season 7 episode with Jon north of the Wall, most fans will immediately notice a striking similarity between the two. The mountain range in the background is seemingly identical. For a look at the photo, see below: Obviously, this isn’t exactly certain confirmation that it was either Benioff or Weiss’s intent to bring Jon to the birthplace of the White Walkers, but considering how much the showrunners have referenced smaller moments and details from past seasons (including the Arya and Nymeria “That’s not you” semi-season 1 callback earlier this season), it wouldn’t exactly be a shock. Regardless, it’s certainly a neat detail and smart continuation of Game of Thrones continuity should it be an intentional callback. Either way, the as-of-yet unnamed 6th episode of season 7 should prove to be an exciting hour of Game of Thrones (judging by the short promo released by HBO , anyway) for fans looking for more direct confrontation with the White Walkers, who will likely be the antagonists for the 8th and final season of the show. Whether or not it addresses the birthplace of the White Walkers, however, remains to be seen.
