Welcome back!

As you probably noticed Empornium has experienced extended downtime over the past week. The direct cause of this has been a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on our site.

Rather than sit it out and hope the attacker gives up, we have decided to make changes to the site's underlying technical structure that will both make us more resistant to these kinds of attack as well as allow us to be more flexible in dealing with problems in the future. Unfortunately, these changes have increased the duration of the already substantial downtime. For that we offer our apologies to all of you, especially those who might have gotten the impression that the site was gone forever.

There are still challenges ahead: the new setup may still need some tweaking and bugs or unavailability may occur as a result, in addition no protection against DDoS attacks is 100% effective against an attack of sufficient scale. However, we like to take up challenges and deal with them rather than give up.

Some practical matters:

The site's content is fully intact, including all user stats. However, seeding/leeching done during the downtime may not have been processed, and can't be recovered.

New uploads that were marked for deletion or hadn't yet been sufficiently seeded may have been deleted. These may be re-uploaded, though if you know your torrent was marked for deletion, you should try to fix it before re-uploading.

If you believe side effects of the downtime have negatively affected you in a disproportionate or unfair way, please open a Staff PM about this or contact us on IRC in #empornium-help. Legitimate cases will be dealt with appropriately, but give us some time to respond to everyone.

Invites are temporarily closed until things stabilize a bit.

The FreeLeech which was interrupted by the downtime will continue, but not quite yet (again, waiting for things to stabilize somewhat).
