    Rule Changes and Updates

We've made a few changes to the rules, and we're clamping down on extant rules that haven't been enforced as strictly as they should've been. Have a read of Rules Clarifications and Changes for all the gory details.

    ------------

One SD rip per format, irrespective of provenance
Allowing BD as an exception for the source of an SD Rip isn't going to help anyone; it dilutes the seed pool in exactly they way we're trying to prevent. See the 'upgrade' section of The Cinemageddon Ethos for some elucidation on this. Obviously, different ARs, open-matte VHS rips, different cuts, etc, are all still more than welcome.

    No mainstream documentaries
We've always been a little lax about this, but the time has come to clamp down. What's Safe to Upload? contains a fairly explicit set of criteria with regard to documentary safety, and we trust that your upload will meet these criteria.

All upgrades have to be cleared in C&E
Seriously: All upgrades. Doesn't matter how sure you are that yours is a massive improvement; if it's an upgrade, ask in C&E before upload.
Oh, and for those of you who add the word 'upgrade' to every description: in the context of CG, the word refers specifically to a replacement for a given format. 720p is not an upgrade of SD; it's an entirely different type of file. Altogether.

Mediainfo mandatory for all single-movie uploads (BD-Rs included)
We've seen quite a few blurays uploaded with just a bdinfo dump in the description rather than a mediainfo; we want the mediainfo. If you can't establish which MPLS file to use, just use the largest file in the STREAM directory. But include it. For DVD-Rs, use the IFO for the movie (usually VTS_01_0.IFO).

Also, all BD-Rs and DVD-Rs must include a list of extras. If there aren't any on the disk, say so. Or, if you want to pretend you're a DVD distributor, say 'Interactive Menus and Scene Access'. But let us know what's on the disk.

    Remuxes Banned
Remuxes are in that unhappy position of having the size disadvantage of a BD-R and none of the advantages; vice versa when compared to a normal 1080p rip. So no remuxes (this goes for DVD remuxes too which, it turns out rather bizarrely, are a thing). We'll be slowly deleting any remuxes we find (if an equivalent optical disk is on site). Don't worry; you won't lose any credits or upload garnered when they're gone. Any remaining remuxes can be trumped by the full disk.

Webrips not allowed if BD exits or is forthcoming.
Most webrips are of significantly lower quality than their BDRip equivalents, so having them on the site only to be trumped later will mean a smaller seed pool going forward. We'll consider existing webrips to be Bluray equivalents if they're of sufficiently high quality (and have no black bars), but going forward we don't want them if a bluray is around or on the way. SD webrips aren't allowed if the DVD or the Bluray exists. If you think yours should be an exception, ask in C&E.

    ----
If you've been downloading the featured torrents at all regularly, you'll be familiar with our upload limits thereon. Well, going forward these limits will apply to the Staff Pick, too. If you want all the details, Upload LImits on Featured Torrents is what you should be reading.

Because there was already a Staff Pick there when this went live, many members are over this limit already. They'll be able to stick around for a while longer, as everyone started out at 0 once the new system kicked off. From the next Staff Pick, it'll be in effect from the beginning.
