It was told to Bits Blog's Jenna Wortham by Matt Mason, BitTorrent executive director of marketing that BitTorrent now plans to enter the legal side of streaming video by working together with the entertainment industry. This is the move that might be scaring to pirates. BitTorrent does not want to represent the underbelly of Internet movie-watching only any longer, but it also wants to push aside free and illegal download. It wants major media companies to generating sales by using its technology. As it also wants to compete with Hulu and Spotify by working with movie and music studious, it will have to chuck out its association with illegal downloads. To clarify this Mason said that they have been putting their efforts to groom the entertainment industry by thinking of BitTorrent as a partner. It is a constant challenge for them. People don’t even know that they are a company; people think that they are two teenagers in a basement in Sweden and what teenagers do is pirating a movie.

Not all torrenting – the phrase for uploading and downloading things via BitTorrent technology – is illegal. No law is broken by file-sharing itself but sharing a copy of The Hurt Locker which is not-yet-released breaks the law, however. Multiple thousands of people were arrested because of torrents of big blockbuster movies as recent as June 2011. It is just an example of certain sites that use the technology for piracy and do not care about the legality like Pirate Bay. In contrast to this BitTorrent Inc. offers only copyright filtered content. It does not operate like that of Pirate Bay.

Even so, the company took great efforts to convince media companies that the technology can help them to make money from internet which might have been scaring for them till yet. BitTorrent has observed some promise in turning downloads from their website into transactions down the line. Mason claims that the sale of actual book on Amazon increased after offering extra downloads from a Tim Ferris cook book free of cost. Companies which are to use BitTorrent software in hardware, getting another possibility and it sounds more awesome according to BitTorrent. People would also be allowed to stream and download stuff from their TV with the help of BitTorrent technology which will be made possible by working with set-top box makers. In spite of this BitTorrent can also turn itself into a streaming service like Rhapsody, which is a subscription service, Spotify, or an a la carte situation like iTunes as theorized by Engadget’s Brad Hill other day.

BitTorrent would support the technology behind the revolution and would be having nothing to do with the offensive content part. BitTorrent would keep itself away from offensive content and would serve itself as a new avenue for the technology behind revolution. “The method which can be adopted to crack the content delivery problem is to avoid the way of content. Nobody wants just to be the pipes." As told by Mason. “We are already the pipes and we are good at it.” He added.
