Belgian ISPs ready to work with BEA on blocking pirate websites
Belgian ISPs have agreed to work with the entertainment sector to block pirate websites offering illegal downloads. According to a report from the Echo, the ISPs Voo, Telenet and Proximus and the Belgian Entertainment Association have agreed on a list of sites to block and asked a court for approval.
The ISPs are hoping the proposal will help avoid a long procedure in court. The lawsuit brought by the BEA seeking action by the ISPs against piracy has already been underway for a year.
The list proposed includes 33 sites and 450 domain names thought to facilitate illegal downloads or streaming. The ISPs are seeking court approval for the list in order to avoid any accusations of violating net neutrality and to confirm they are not liable for the illegal activity.
According to the BEA, 36 percent of internet traffic in Belgium comes from illegal download sites.
