All major brazilian trackers went down yesterday

All major brazilian trackers went down yesterday

The source is in portuguese but if you're wondering about what happened is that the Federal Police launched a so called "Copyright" operation and went after the servers. It seems like in all, they went after 11 servers and 9 people and the phonographic association is claiming a single website caused them over 10 million dollars in financial damage - it's 2019, and again, the same old mistake of assuming people would buy content if they didn't pirate it.

I won't name any of them but if you're a member of other famous trackers, it seems like they went down as well. It's quite surprising to find such operations taking place since it's not very common to seeing that happenig and I think it's a wake up call to anyone who's administrating such communities, they need to step up their game. The police had help from the american authorities since some servers were hosted in North America. It comes as a bit change in policy since the authorities never seemed to bother about such thing, especially in regards to private communities, and since all of them went out at once, I think it may take some time for servers to come back up.

I don't think anyone will be arrested but it's a sad day for the torrent community. Stay safe and seed.

PF makes operation against piracy of music, series, movies and games

Police officers have completed 11 search warrants and seizures and nine search warrants and physical arrest on Tuesday (15) through Operation Copyright.

The Federal Police has served 11 search warrants and nine virtual search warrants and physical arrest warrants this morning (15) through Operation Copyright, which investigates crimes of violation of copyright and criminal association.

The investigations were carried out by the Federal Police station in Sorocaba (SP) and began in 2017.

In addition to the city, the orders are being fulfilled in Bauru (SP), Santa Teresa (ES), Curitiba (PR), Nova Iguaçu (RJ), Niterói (RJ) and São Simão (GO). According to the PF, there are also international legal cooperation procedures for some steps in the United States.

The goal of the investigation is to curb copyright infringement over the internet on a closed site that uses the so-called P2P or peer-to-peer system. Through the site, movies, games and music are downloaded without authorization.

The site under investigation had about nine million hits per year, with more than 70,000 active users and 140,000 registered users.

The representative association of the sector estimates that only with copyright infringement by the website investigated the losses to record companies reached R $ 38 million in the last nine years.

The name of the operation means "copyright" in English. There was no arrest.

Yes this is very sad, but as far as I know there is no way to be sure if all the trackers that went down was part of the "Copyright" operation. People are saying that some of then went down just for precaution and there is a possibility that they come back. Lets hope that is true!!
