Lightbulb Send files using BitTorrent without a tracker

Sure, you can send 1 MB up to 25 MB files as an attachment via email. But what about larger files 1 GB up to 50 GB? Sure, there are other ways like using MSN send file feature or Skype peer to peer connection. But say your friend has 90% of the file so far and he loses the connection? He'd then have to re-download all over again. All this can be easily avoided by using a BitTorrent client.

For this tutorial I will be using uTorrent 2.0.4, but you can use any version you wish.

Okay, so this is how I do it. Open up a text editor, like notepad and copy and paste this

    Code:
    http://IP:Port/announce
We're going to make two changes to this a later, to both the IP & the Port

    Go to WhatIsMyIP.com

What we need is here is your IP. Now in your text editor replace "IP" with your actual IP address

Now, in your client. Go to Options>Preferences>Connection

What we need here is the port you're using. Above in the red box is your port. Go to your text editor and replace "Port" with your actual port number.

You should still be in you client's "Preferences", now go to "Advanced" and change two options.

    bt.allow_same_ip & bt.enable_tracker
Change the value from NO (false) to Yes (* true).

Now you're all set! Create the torrent you want to send using the text in your text editor for the Torrent Properties, (you know? like where you normally would put the announce url)

If you don't know how to create a torrent then you're in the wrong tutorial, buddy!

So save it somewhere, load it into your client, point it to the proper directory, force re-check if it doesn't do so automatically, start seeding, and finally send your friend(s) the .torrent file. Good luck!
