Everyday too many accounts are hacked. Be it Gmail, Facebook or for that matter any other account on the Internet. And due to having too many accounts on different sites people most of the times use same password for all their accounts and thus compromise their accounts’ security. If a person gets to know any of your account passwords he/she may be able to login to other accounts also.

And talking about Google’s services, all of them require the same password to login and use them. So in that case if you knowingly or unknowingly disclose your password to anyone then he/she may get into your mail, Adsense, Google wallet account etc. And the most easiest way to get someone’s Google account password is to hack his/her Gmail account. Here in this post I will be talking about securing your Google account so that it becomes almost impossible for a hacker to get into your Google account.
To enable the security of your Google Account follow the below mentioned steps:

Choose a password bigger than 10 letters and make use of small alphabets, capital alphabets, digits and special characters such as comma (,) , asterisk (*) etc..
Enable 2 step verification for you Google Account.
While the first step is quite easy to implement. Some of you may not know about 2 step verification. So here we go.

Enable 2 step verification for Google Account

2 step verification is a great step taken by Google to protect its users accounts from getting hacked. What it does is that when you login to your Google account it sends an SMS to your mobile number with an access code. You need to enter that code when asked in order to fully login to your Google account. And now about enabling the 2 step verification. Follow the below mentioned steps to enable 2 step verification:
Open this link: https://accounts.google.com/smsauthconfig
Now login with your Google account to enable 2 step verification and securing your Google account.
After logging in you will see the Setup page for 2 step verification. Click on “Start Setup” button.
Now you will get on to a page where it asks if you want to use Android phone to authenticate your Google Account using an Android App. At the bottom you will see a link saying the below text written:
‘Don’t want to use the app?You can receive codes by text message (SMS) or voice instead.”
Click on “You can receive codes by text message (SMS) or voice instead”.
Note: I ignored the Android App option because if you use an Android App then you always need data connection whenever you want to login to your Google account even while logging in from a PC. While if you choose the text message option all you need is incoming messages.
On the next page enter the mobile number on which you want to receive the text message or voice call with the authentication code and click on Send Code.
You would receive a message or Voice call (whichever option you choose) with the authentication code. Enter it on the next page and click on Verify to verify your phone number to receive authentication code to sign in to your Google account.
Now you will get an option to Trust the Computer from which you have enabled the 2 step verification. If it is your own PC than click on Trust this Computer and if it is a public PC or not your own PC or laptop then uncheck the box saying “Trust this Computer”. And click on Next.
On the last page click on Confirm to turn on 2 step verification.
2 step verification is now enabled for your Google account and next time whenever you login to your Google account you will receive an authentication code which you need to enter to login.

I hope this article must have helped you in enabling 2 step verification for your account and thus securing your Google account.
