As you have probably heard already, Windows 10 comes with several new emoticons, including a middle finger, which is supposed to enhance chatting on the new operating system, no matter what device you use.

But in a surprising way, using emojis in Windows 10 is not at all that easy and we've received quite a lot of questions lately about the way users can access theme.

Truth is, it's not really that easy to use emoji in Windows 10 and you'll notice right away why. If you do have a touch-capable device, then it's a bit easier to send a message containing an emoticon, but on a PC with a mouse and keyboard, it's really a pain in the neck.

The on-screen keyboard

Believe it or not, but in order to send emoji from Windows 10, you need to enable the on-screen keyboard, which is mostly aimed at touch-capable devices who don't have a keyboard.

To do that, right click the taskbar and select the “Show touch keyboard button” to enable the keyboard in the right lower corner of the screen, just near the system tray clock.

Once you do that, open the chat window where you want to insert an emoji, click the touch keyboard button in the system tray, and hit the smiley face icon in this keyboard.

You should then be able to select any emoji from a large collection that's bundled by default in Windows 10.

What's also important to know is that not all apps support the Windows 10 emoji, so if you want to send them in Pidgin messenger, for instance, it won't work.

On the other hand, you can easily insert an emoticon in the Twitter app, just like you'd do from a Windows Phone device, but there's still no doubt that the on-screen keyboard makes the whole thing quite awful on a PC with a mouse and keyboard.
