Question How to Download Files with Usenetwork

Usenetwork: A Fast and Easy Way to Download Files

It’s a real abundance and madness out there when it comes to choosing a service for downloading content online – we have BitTorrent with its numerous file sharing services and tones of p2p clients, we have file hosting services like RapidShare, multinetwork file sharing services like Leechpack and we also have Usenet.

Today we focus our attention on the latter and another type of download service which has become very popular among downloaders – Usenetwork.

Before we take a look at what Usenetwork offers let’s see what exactly is Usenet, a type of service that’s been around for ages and shows no signs of going anywhere (for more details go to Wikipedia). Usenet is a network of newsgroups through which users can share data in the form of posts, articles and files, “a cross between what we know as e-mail, and what we know as a forum.” All the content on Usenet is uncensored and not moderated and presents no legal issues linked to the content being downloaded. Ultimately, Usenet is “simply a way for people to communicate opinions and information with one another in an open environment”.

Usenetwork.com (which is a subscription-based service) provides its users with the ability to receive secure access to the Usenet discussion boards. “ISPs now limit or outright censor access to these newsgroups, but with the use of Usenetwork.com, you can receive access to all of it, and as much as you want of it,” reads the site.

    How it works

Usernetwork uses its own downloading application which you can only download and use after you have created an account at usenetwork.com. The website offers a 100 MB free trial allowing you to better understand how the software works after which you can choose the plan that best fits your needs at the Usenetwork.com sign up page.

    How to download using UsenetDownloader

UsenetDownloader provides users with multiple ways of downloading content. You can simply enter the title you want to search for in the search box. The site gives further instructions: “Double clicking on any search result will add to the downloads section. Before download begins you will be asked to choose the folder where all the files will be saved. You can choose this folder every time when download begins or just tick “Don’t ask again” selection and this option will be able to change only in settings section. During the usage of the search you can also select category of file by dropping down the selection menu.”

Another way of downloading stuff with this app is newsgroup browsing (for those unfamiliar with the term ‘newsgroups’ check out additional explanations below). For this press the newsgroup button in the software’s main menu. The app allows you to browse newsgroups by categories (all groups, music, video, software, games, books, erotica) or just type your search keyword. You’ll have the results displayed in the newsgroup list. If you want to check out the content of the newsgroup click on it in the list and you will be able to see it in the right side of the screen.

    What is a newsgroup?

A newsgroup is basically a Usenet section that allows users to post and share with others messages containing articles and files on various topics which are formed into groups for easier searching and communication.

A third way of downloading using UsenetDownloader is uploading the nzb file: “just click file then open nzb or click ctrl+o. It can be found using some nzb search engines, just type “nzb search” in google. NZB is a usenet file format which is used for retrieving some file groups from the network.”

Among Usernetwork’s advantages is its independence from peer-to-peer connections and download speed restrictions, which means it always downloads at the maximum speed your ISP allows. However, the amount of content available via Usernetwork might be a bit lower than on p2p networks.

    From the site :
“Most of you who normally use a peer-to-peer program are used to only being able to download files fast depending on the amount of peers there are online currently with that same file. That’s not the case across Usenet and through the use of the Usenet Downloader. The only limit to how fast you can download is whatever your download limit is through your ISP. That’s because you’ll be downloading the files straight from high speed servers that are configured for you to download at your maximum speed.”

Usenet Downloader is very simple to use and requires no proper configuration – a clean, add free app with only a few functions you can choose to modify in the settings menu that lets you enter proxy server data, turn SSL Encryption on and off, turn the download speed limit function on and off, and a few other key components.
