Russian leader Vladimir Putin sent President Trump a Christmas note: Let’s talk.

Putin included the message in a letter he sent to a number of heads of state, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, British Prime Minister Theresa May and Syria’s despot Bashar al-Assad.

“In a Christmas and New Year greeting message to President of the United States of America Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia-US relations are the most important factor behind ensuring strategic stability and international security, and reaffirmed that Russia is open to dialogue with the United States on the most extensive agenda,” the Kremlin said on Sunday.

The two leaders were expected to get together at a G-20 meeting in Argentina, but Trump abruptly canceled after Russia in late November grabbed three Ukrainian Navy warships and their crews in the Black Sea.

At the time, National Security Adviser John Bolton said Putin and Trump would discuss trade, arms control and issues in the Middle East.

In his message to Assad, whose regime Russia’s military has been propping up since late 2015, Putin vowed to “continue to provide all-around assistance to the government and people of Syria in their fight against terrorism.”

Trump earlier this month announced that he was pulling the 2,000 US troops serving in Syria because the fight against the Islamic State terror group is over.

The president’s decision led to the resignation of Defense Secretary James Mattis.
