THE body of a woman thought to be in her fifties has been found on a path in a Hull cemetery.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the Western Cemetery at around 9.30am following the discovery of the woman's body.

Police say investigations are in their very early stages and the death is being treated as unexplained.

Every entrance to the cemetery in Chanterlands Avenue was blocked, and police were stopping people from entering.

In a statement, a police spokesman said: “The body of a woman thought to be in her fifties has been found in a cemetery in Hull.

"We were called around 9.30am this morning Sunday 28 October to a report that a woman’s body had been found on a pathway at Western Cemetery.

"Officers are currently there along with our colleagues from the ambulance service. Investigations are in their very early stages and we are currently treating her death as unexplained."

Speaking to Hull Live Lee Coles, 47, and Jean Coles,70 mother and son, live behind the cemetery in Dundee Street.

The son said: “It is a shock. It is a quiet area and we don’t really get anything like this happening around here.”
