Chinese tech giant Xiaomi and IKEA have partnered up in a bid to expand the reach of their respective Internet of Things (IoT) platforms. Starting in December, IKEA smart home products will integrate with the Mi Home app and the Xiao AI assistant, Xiaomi announced on Twitter.

Xiaomi may be most popular in the West for its smartphones, but the company has a huge portfolio of all sorts of products on offer. There's no shortage of smart home devices carrying the "Mi" logo in Asia, with millions of people using the company's AI assistant to control various products in their homes using voice commands.

IKEA, on the other hand, is constantly looking to expand the reach of its smart home offerings to as many ecosystems as possible. Earlier this year, the Swedish retailer rolled out Google Assistant support to its smart lighting products, which already had integration with Amazon Alexa and Apple Homekit.

Global spokesperson and director of product management at Xiaomi, Donovan Sung, announced that support for IKEA's popular TRÅDFRI lineup of smart lighting devices will be brought to the Mi Home app and Xiao AI assistant this sometime December.
