A DAD live-streamed his dramatic six-day hunt for the thief who stole his iPad - tracking its every move with GPS technology.

Astonishingly Jonathan Downey managed to locate the device, which was nicked from his car last Friday, and confront the crook who had it.

The dad-of-four followed the iPad's movements through pubs, bars and churchyards across Hoxton, north east London, using Apple's Find My iPhone feature.

Jonathan documented every development in the search for the tablet on Twitter, joking that it was "having a great time" with its new illegitimate owner.

As his do-it-yourself investigation continued, he tweeted: "For a minute there I thought we had the f*****. My iPad has been on the move again.

"Looks like he put a bet on in Ladbrokes on East St before heading off to the Tesco on Bunhill Row either for some fags or to get something for tea."

He later explained that, based on the thief's daily routine, the crook was either a "catering student" from a nearby college or a "homeless person wandering the area - moving from park bench to soup kitchen to Ladbrokes."

Jonathan, the CEO of London Union which runs the Street Feast night markets in east London, then teamed up with his pal Rick and went out to catch the crook himself.

He said: "We thought we had him at Tesco’s. We just missed him by M&S but then lost him north of Finsbury Square.

"Always moving, evading capture. Blending in with the night crowd."

The morning after the failed attempt, he checked the location again, fuming: "The b****** is taunting me. No student gets up this early. It must be with a homeless person."

But Jonathan's luck changed after six days of meticulously monitoring the iPad's movements.

He said: "He’d stopped in St John’s churchyard and we sensed that this was our chance.

"I parked the car and we ran into the churchyard through the west gate.

"We circled around the back of the church and slowed our approach. THERE HE IS!

"He’s alone, standing over a park bench pulling something out of a plastic bag."

The App had located the man, who Jonathan said was old and "obviously homeless", with pinpoint accuracy.

Approaching him he said: “I think you’ve got something of mine," and pointed at his backpack.

Rick, armed with Find My iPhone App, then pressed a button that triggered the iPad to sound an alarm.

Amazed, Jonathan said: "My iPad started to beep loudly from the black backpack on the park bench.

"My iPad was RIGHT THERE in his backpack. I’d followed its movements for 6 days and we’d finally tracked it down to a backpack on a park bench in a churchyard in Hoxton.

"I reached in to pull it out. 'This is mine,' I said, 'Thanks for looking after it.'”

He then left the churchyard and the homeless man, who was deeply confused.

Jonathan told The Sun Online: "Not so much relieved as surprised and amazed to find it after tracking it for so long.

"It had been stolen and I never thought I’d see it again.

"I felt sorry for the guy. He was clearly homeless, itinerant and he had looked after my iPad for me!"
