US high school goes viral with Harry Potter routine
IT has been more than 21 years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone first hit shelves and seven years since the last film, yet the magic surrounding the boy wizard and his good-versus-evil struggle against Voldemort continues to enchant.
This time an Arizona school’s dance team has gone viral after it’s Potter-themed performance was shared online.
The six-minute clip - recorded at Walden Grove High School’s homecoming assembly - explores Potter’s acceptance into Hogwarts, his first flying lesson and a battle with “He Who Must Not be named”.
It has been viewed close to 3.7 million times on YouTube, with comments praising the work of the school’s PAC Dance Team and Advanced Dance group.
“I’m asking myself why I did not go to school like this. This was EPIC,” posted user Cherry Wallis.
“Props to the coaches for the idea/choreography and being able to wrangle so many students,” said Alevermor.
“Props to the students for their dedication and extra long school days and possibly weekends they spent rehearsing.
“This is the product of excellent teamwork all around.”
Kelly Hoy posted: “And people are trying to take away fine arts in schools. THIS IS AMAZING.”
It isn’t the first time the Walden Grove crew has attracted attention for a stunning performance.
A 2017 interpretation on the Wizard of Oz collected 3.1 million hits on YouTube, while a Pixar-inspired routine in 2016 raked in another 3.2 million views.
