WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (RIA Novosti). The head of the US Treasury, Stephen Mnuchin, said that within 30 days against Russia, new restrictive measures will be introduced.
"We implement all existing sanctions and introduce new ones," said the minister, quoted by the correspondent of Bloomberg agency Salekh Mohsin.
In late January, the day after the publication of the "Kremlin report" by the Ministry of Finance, Mnuchin visited the Senate hearings. Then he did not name the exact dates for the introduction of new sanctions and stated that he would be cautious in the assumptions, since it is necessary "to do a lot of work."
On demands for more decisive measures against Russia and its leadership, he replied: "Obviously, there are problems that we must solve, and we solve them through sanctions."
US sanctions against Russia
Now a number of sanctions have been taken against Russia in the United States because of the situation in the Crimea and the Donbass, and also because of Moscow's "interference" in the elections.
In August 2017, Donald Trump signed the CAATSA law, directed against Russia, Iran and the DPRK. Based on this document, the US Ministry of Finance published on January 29 a "Kremlin list", which included large Russian officials and entrepreneurs - more than 200 people. The report does not automatically imply sanctions against them, but implies that they can be applied in the future.
Also in the autumn, the White House presented a list of individuals and organizations in the Russian defense and intelligence sector, for "significant" transactions with which they can impose sanctions.
Russia's accusations of "interference in elections"
At the same time, there are independent investigations in the US Congress about "Russian intervention" in the presidential elections, which Trump won. A similar investigation is being conducted by the special prosecutor Robert Mueller.
In the American media, there are regular reports with reference to unnamed sources about the contacts of members of Trump's election headquarters with Russian officials and businessmen.
In February, State Department spokesman Heather Nauert said the agency could consider imposing restrictive measures against 13 Russians who were on the "Mueller list" on charges of "interfering in elections."
Russia repeatedly rejected such claims, Dmitry Peskov called them "absolutely unsubstantiated."
