Carl M Force, an ex-undercover DEA agent, has finally pleaded guilty of stealing over $700,000 in Bitcoins, mainly from an online drug marketplace Silk Road, which the agent infiltrated during federal investigation. He pleaded guilty to extortion, money laundering and obstruction of justice in federal court.

The former agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, 46, was sentenced in October 2014 and could face up to 20 years of jail time. His attorney told the court that his client suffered from anxiety and depression. While with the DEA Force, the agent had to pretend a big-time drug dealer with connections in order to hit men, infiltrate Silk Road and get in touch with its founder, Ross Ulbricht. The latter was recently sentenced to life in prison.

Known under the alias “Nob” in his undercover role, the agent told the site founder he had inside information about the federal investigation of the marketplace and began selling him tidbits about the probe. Carl M Force also pretended to be another person, nicknamed “French Maid”, who purported to have inside information on the probe that he sold to the site operator.

Finally, it became known that the former agent invested in a company brokering Bitcoin and served as its chief compliance officer while still with the Drug Enforcement Administration. The agent pleaded guilty to charges of using his position to seize $300,000 from a customer and transfer it to his private account while being with that company.

Aside from Force, it is known that a former Secret Service agent, Shaun Bridges, had also agreed to plead guilty to theft charges that involved the separate siphoning of funds from the drugs black market. This agent will enter his plea in August.
