TWO men are fighting for life after a plane crash in western Victoria.

The fixed-wing aircraft came down in a field at Black Range near Stawell about 12.40pm today.

Two men in their 40s suffered life-threatening injuries and will be flown to hospital, police say.

One man suffered suspected face and head injuries and was in a serious condition, Ambulance Victoria earlier said.

Victoria Police spokesman Luke Zammit said the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) had been notified.

“Police are currently at the scene of a light aircraft crash in Black Range near Stawell,” Mr Zammit said.

“It is believed the fixed-wing aircraft has come down just north of the Stawell airfield shortly before 1pm.”

The men are expected to be flown to hospitals in Melbourne.
