DONALD Trump told his supporters it will be their fault if he gets impeached because they "did not vote" at the most important mid-term elections in recent times.

Trump, who has said the world economy will collapse if he is kicked out of the White House, issued the warning at a rally in Montana last night.

He warned a Democratic-controlled Congress would pursue impeachment if the party does better than the Republicans at the November elections.

A few Democratic lawmakers have already called for the former reality TV star, 72, to be removed from office.

Trump told his supporters: "Let's say a Democrat gets elected and let's say we have a Republican House. We will impeach that Democrat, right?

"You're going to have a country that's going to turn into a third-world country.

"Because if the opposite party becomes president, before you even find out whether he or she is going to do a great job, they'll say, 'We want to impeach him!'

"If it does happen, it's your fault because you didn't go out to vote."

All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of 100 seats in the Senate will be contested at the mid-terms elections, most of which will be held on November 6.

The Senate's main role is to approve legislation suggested by the House so if a party has control of both, they become the major lawmaking force in the country.

NBC reports that, in every mid-term since the Civil War, the president's party has, on average, lost 32 seats in the House and two in the Senate.

The Democrats need only 24 to flip the house and two to take the Senate, meaning it would be easier to kick off impeachment proceedings.

Late last month, Trump said the global economy would collapse if he was kicked out of the White House over the Stormy Daniels scandal.

It came a day after his one-time lawyer and friend Michael Cohen admitted to paying porn star Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal to keep quiet about their alleged affairs with him.

Cohen, who faces serious jail time after being convicted of eight charges including campaign finance violations, claimed he was acting "under the direction" of the US president.

Many suggested the Democrats would try and strip Trump of the presidency if they do better than the Republicans at the mid-terms.

When asked if he believed they will launch impeachment proceedings, he told Fox & Friends: "If I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash.

"I think everybody would be very poor... I don't know how you could impeach someone who's done a great job."

Al Green, a Democratic congressman, who has previously filed articles of impeachment against Mr Trump, said he might file others after Cohen’s guilty plea.

Green told ABC: "I think the president has to realise that the countdown to impeachment has already started. He will have to choose if he will face impeachment or if he will resign.

"It will be his choice. The congress will have no choice but to act."
