US President Donald Trump overnight said North Korea wants to hold a high-stakes meeting “as soon as possible” — and praised dictator Kim Jong Un as “very open” and “very honourable.”

During talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House, Trump addressed his upcoming plans to meet with the rogue regime’s leader, the New York Postreports.

“He really has been very open and I think very honourable from everything we’re seeing,” Trump told reporters.

“Now a lot of promises have been made by North Korea over the years but they have never been in this position.”

His praise for the dictator stands in stark contrast to his past comments in which he referred to Kim as “Little Rocket Man” and boasted about the size of his nuclear button.

Kim fired back by calling Trump a “mentally deranged US dotard.”

The Trump-Kim meeting is expected in May or June.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in plans to meet with Kim on Friday to kick off a new round of high-stakes nuclear diplomacy with Pyongyang.
