Commuters were left waiting hours this morning when strong winds blew a tree branch onto overhead wires in Springwood near the Blue Mountains.

The incident caused delays for the Central to Mount Victoria line where passengers were forced to wait at Springwood for a later service.

The Transport NSW Twitter page warned passengers of delays in both directions before 11am.

At 1.30pm, NSW TrainLink West posted that the Lithgow to Central service was still experiencing delays of 48 minutes because of the tree.

“Trains in both directions are delayed due to a tree that has fallen on overhead wires,” Transport NSW posted online.

Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time.
