SPY chiefs fear the British jihadi dubbed the "White Widow" is recruiting female terrorists to attack European holiday hotspots, it is claimed.

Spain, the Canary Islands, Cyprus, Turkey and Greece are among the summer destinations reportedly being targeted.

According to The Daily Star, details of the recruitment drive were revealed in communications supplied by foreign intelligence organisations.

Samantha Lewthwaite, originally from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, has been linked to a string of terrorist atrocities and all-female death squads but remains at large.

The so-called "White Widow" has reportedly masterminded several attacks in east Africa where she operates with the jihadist group al-Shabaab.

Her husband Jermaine Lindsay killed 26 people when he blew himself up on a tube travelling between King's Cross and Russell Square in London on July 7, 2005.

Now the Daily Star claims she is feared to have recruited up to 30 terrorists and trained them in bombmaking.

A source told the paper: "One attack in a popular holiday destination will have a major impact on tourism.

"We have seen it in North Africa and in Egypt, where tourism is now almost dead.

"The White Widow hates Britain and everything the West stands for.

"She has completely turned her back on her country and her former life.

"She has mentored dozens of female terrorists and favours white converts to Islam because she feels they attract less suspicion by the security services.

"She has convinced many female extremists that they need to sacrifice their lives if they want to be real servants to Islam."

Lewthwaite converted to Islam as a teenager after she took a shine to an older Muslim bloke and would often be seen out in full-length robes.

She married Jamaican-born Lindsay after they met via an Islamic chatroom.

Lewthwaite initially condemned Lindsay as "abhorrent" after his suicide death but soon disappeared off the radar.

The mother-of-four is thought to have fled to South Africa where she met bombmaker Habib Ghani.

He is believed to have introduced her to the extremist Islamic group al-Shabaab.
