DAME Judi Dench has defended Kevin Spacey amid a raft of sex attack allegations.

The Bond actress, 83, slammed directors who cut the House of Cards star out of movies and described him as a "good friend".

Judi starred alongside Kevin, 59, in 2001's The Shipping News and said he was a rock after he husband's death the same year

Speaking at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, the actress said: "Kevin was an inestimable comfort and never mentioned he knew I was in a bad way.

"He cheered me up and kept me going."

Variety report that she also took aim at directors who snipped him out of movies a after deluge of worrying claims.

Last year, Spacey was cut out of All The Money In The World, and his scenes re-shot with Christopher Plummer.

Judi added: "I can’t approve, in any way, of the fact that — whatever he has done — that you then start to cut him out of the films.

"Are we to do what happened when he was replaced with Christopher Plummer? Are we to do that throughout history?

"Are we to go back throughout history and anyone who has misbehaved in any way, or who has broken the law, or who has committed some kind of offence, are they always going to be cut out?

The Oscar winning actress added: "I don’t know about the conditions of it, but nevertheless he is, and was, a most wonderful actor.

"I can’t imagine what he is doing now... And a good friend."

Dressed in a black dress, with glistening diamond jewellery , Dame Judi received the festival prestigious Donostia Award for her lifetime of work.

Spacey was stripped of an International Emmy Award and his acclaimed Netflix series House of Cards was axed after a string of men accused him of sexual misconduct.
