Teenager survives light plane crash in Detroit which killed his parents
Chilling footage has emerged showing a teenage boy rolling out of a burning light plane after it crashed in the US, killing his father and stepmother.
The 17-year-old was the sole survivor of the crash but is in a critical condition with third-degree burns in hospital.
It is understood Greg Boaz, 54, his wife, Julie, 48, and his son Peyton were travelling in the aircraft when it hit a power line and trees near Detroit on Sunday, WXYZ.com reports.
In the footage, Peyton can be seen rolling out of the plane and running away from the burning wreckage.
His best friend, Sophie Nilssen, has taken to social media, asking her family and friends to pray for his recovery.
"Keep Peyton Boaz and his family in your thoughts and prayers or prayer equivalents," she said.
"He is a bright light in a dark world, he's stood by me through every bad decision and stupid mistake, I can't remember life without him. He is family."
According to WXYZ.com, Mr Boaz’s cousin, Danny, said Mr Boaz had only bought the aircraft last week and that the trio were heading to Detroit for his daughter’s volleyball competition.
"I was asking if he flies anymore, he said 'no’,” Danny said.
"He was thinking about getting back into it. I really believe that the conversation kind of peaked his interest in flying again."
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
Air safety investigator Andrew Todd Fox said that no conclusive cause had been determined for the crash.
Mr Fox said the single-engine Cessna took off from West Memphis, Arkansas, on Sunday and was expected to land later that night at a small municipal airport on Detroit's east side.
He said the pilot reported one landing gear was not extended when attempting to land.
Mr Fox said the pilot was circling back to the airport when he told the control tower he was either "low on fuel or out of fuel".
