A RAIL passenger said she was called a "f***ing foreigner" and told she was not welcome in Birmingham by a fellow commuter in a foul-mouthed rant.

Photographer Elizabeth Argyll, from Edinburgh, said she was targeted by a woman who wrongly believed she was sitting in her seat - before politely revealing she was Scottish.

In a tweet she said: "On a train & I've just been called a "F***ing foreigner" coz a numpty thinks I'm in her seat (I'm not).

"I replied 'If Scotland gets independence then I will be a foreigner.' The next 90mins will be frosty."

She added: "Can't believe these people really exist. She's challenged me to a fight. Yup, a fight! I've told her 'Oh, do behave.' She's now eating a smelly egg sandwich. I wonder if it will give her super powers?"

In a third tweet, the photographer wrote: "I raised my right perfectly plucked right eyebrow at her. I'm now not welcome in Birmingham. Another 78mins to go."

She went on: "She couldn't handle my being cool, calm and collected. Kindness is more powerful than anger...and a raised eyebrow! I don't know how I'm going to get over not being welcome to visit Birmingham."

She finally said: "All was good when I got off the train later. Keep a cool head and don't rise to it."

Responding to her tweets, numerous Brummies wrote to her saying she was welcome in their city.

Gregory Edwards tweeted: "You're welcome in Birmingham anytime. That a***hole does not represent the city in any way, shape or form. We're a welcoming, laid back and kind-hearted bunch here in Brum and I hope this didn't dampen your visit!"

Jayne Bailey said: “That's awful sorry you had to experience that. Hope you visit Birmingham again and never come into contact with any bigoted or racist people in the future.”

Fellow photographer Verity Milligan tweeted: "You're 100 per cent welcome in Birmingham! Stupid racists can stand aside."

Mark Rice added: "Speaking as a Brummie, you're welcome in our wonderful city anytime. It's a great city, with plenty of culture, great independent coffee shops & places to eat, not to mention some lovely people (honest)."

Following the messages of support, Elizabeth replied saying: "The tweets I've got have shown me what a warm and hospitable bunch you all are. Schedule is crazy but I'll definitely let you know, I do need to visit [Birmingham] now!"

Elizabeth's tweets were posted on Monday but it's not known where she was travelling to and from.
