AN AUSTRALIAN man has been killed while surfing at a popular beach in Indonesia.

Andrew Richard Wiseman, 52, was presumed drowned after he went to ride waves alone at Tanjung Aan beach off Lombok on Sunday but was found dead about two hours later.

Jivana Resort Kuta, understood to be run by Andrew’s brother Steven Wiseman, confirmed his death in a post on its official Facebook page.

“REST IN PEACE: Beautiful memories silently kept of the one that we loved and that memories becomes a treasure,” the post read.

“Andrew Wiseman — March 18th, 2018 — at Jivana Resort Kuta.”

Steven, who lives in Lombok, also posted a tribute to his brother on his private Facebook page.

“Will always Love you Andy, you still make me smile,” it read alongside a photo of the pair.

Lombok Tengah Police chief Kholilur Rochman said that another Australian, who was at the same location, and others had tried to bring Mr Wiseman to the shore by boat, the Herald Sun reported.

But attempts to revive him on the beach were unsuccessful.

According to the Jakarta Post, Andrew went for a surf around 11am that morning and was declared dead around 1pm.

“It is believed that the victim died when he was surfing because he was unwell,” Mr Rochman said.

“Before going to surf he had told witnesses that he felt pain in his left shoulder.”

Those who knew Andrew described him as “the life of the party” who had “the funniest laugh”.
