A SOLDIER has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The private, believed to be in his 20s, was quizzed by cops at Kendrew Barracks near Cottesmore, Rutland, yesterday.

It's the same barracks where eight troops were investigated for having Class As in their urine after an out-of-control bash in January.

Insiders suggested cocaine had been used at the party - just days after 9 Regiment RLC staged a mess party at Buckley Barracks near Chippenham, Wiltshire in December last year.

The alleged attack also comes in the wake of The Sun revealing six Army sports club members were being quizzed over a serious sex attack on a sleeping female soldier.

The woman, 17, is said to have told bosses she woke to find the men — one a Staff Sergeant — standing over her.

The group, thought to have been drinking, fled. Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson was so “appalled” that yesterday he launched a review into bullying and harassment throughout the forces.

It caps a nightmare week for the Army after four members of 3 Para filmed themselves using Jeremy Corbyn’s face for target practice in Afghan capital Kabul.

WE WILL NOT TOLERATE IT
General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith today issued a statement after the string of serious incidents, saying: "The British soldier is known for many things; stoicism, a sense of honour and duty, courage, a sense of humour and an honest sense of decency... It's not less than the country expects.

"Any behaviour that falls short of that high standard, we cannot and will not tolerate. This is everyone's business; this is about who we are as professional soldiers.

"This hasn't been a good week for the army; it's damaged our reputation which is exceptionally hard earned and includes the sacrifice of our friends on the battlefield."

And today, Lincolnshire Police are investigating the latest sexual assault allegation against a soldier.

A source told The Sun Online police had arrived at the barracks yesterday after the allegation was made.

An army spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a soldier from the Royal Logistic Corps has been arrested by Lincolnshire Police on suspicion of rape.

"It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Lincolnshire Police have been contacted for comment.
