SONS of Anarchy star David Labrava has been left devastated after his 16-year-old son took his own life.

The Sun reports that the 55-year-old actor and tattoo artist posted on Instagram that son Tycho was battling depression.

“Never in a million tears would I think I would be posting this. This is my boy Tycho,” he wrote. “He took his life a couple of days ago at 16 years old.”

Labrava played Happy Lowman on the hit show.

His Instagram is filled with pictures of him alongside his teen boy, including at landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

“He suffered from a depression we couldn’t see because he was a happy young kid,” he wrote

He urged his followers to “communicate with your loved ones, there might not be any signs.”

Labrava added: “Cherish them. I am broken.”

He added a link to a GoFundMe page set up by Tycho’s friends.

It reads: “He quietly suffered from depression for years and didn’t know how to ask for help.

“An amazing and beautiful soul, Tycho was extremely intelligent, athletic, loyal, and a sensitive friend.”

It says his last wish was to raise money for a depression and bipolar organisation.

The page has almost reached its $US10,575 target.

David Labrava is a biking enthusiast who started riding at the age of 17.

He was originally brought on as a technical adviser on Sons of Anarchy but ended up starring in it and penning an episode.

Labrava and his family live in California.
