A new player on the dating scene in Perth is taking a stripped down approach to the art of finding love.

At a time when many people are retreating behind screens to use online dating apps such as Tinder, OkCupid and Bumble, Single and Co is encouraging people to get up close and personal for Perth’s first naked speed dating night.

Singles will “Bare it All” at the event on March 1 and have the chance to go to 20 four-minute dates.

As they arrive, guests will be given a date card and robe. Those who feel uncomfortable at the start will be allowed to wear their underwear.

After each date, guests record a ‘yes', 'no', or 'just friends' on the date card and will be alerted to any matches the next day.

Organiser Lachlan Scrase, 24, said he wanted to put a twist on conventional speed dating.

“I wanted to set up a fun and safe way of people actually meeting face-to-face and getting to know each other with a bit of a difference,” he said.

“Instead of just having their clothes on, there’s nowhere to hide, everyone has got scars, bumps, lumps and things like that. It is just a cool way of saying that everyone has got the same thing I guess.”

Mr Scrase, who has a partner and is a flight instructor by day, said he was inspired to start the business by the experiences of friends.

“I have a huge amount of single mates who literally sit on the couch with Tinder right next to me and try to set up dates and there is not much going on in terms of actual face-to-face set ups,” he said.

“For a Tinder date a lot of people go into people’s houses that they have never met and that could be anybody.

“I wanted to provide an event that is in a safe place that people can feel comfortable in their skin and know that we have got the security in place so that if anything does happen it is handled.”

Places are limited to 20 male and 20 females for each session. There will be not vetting of attendees at the heterosexual event however the ages would be limited to 18 to 30-year-olds.

Mr Scrase said it was not just extroverts signing up.

“I have people who have messaged me saying ‘I’ve never done something like this before, I’ve never even done speed dating but I want to jump in the deep end and give it a go’,” he said.

Security will be a priority and anyone suspected of taking advantage of the situation or trying to take photos would be shown the door.

“We are trying to keep this as above board and as private an event as possible even though the word is getting out there.”

Mr Scrase said it would be the first of a number of events put on by Single and Co. with another couple planned for April, one for 25-40 year-olds and another for LGBTQ singles.
