THERE’S a big push back to limit screen time but a Sydney doctor says using a tablet at specific times of the day actually has health benefits.

Dr Nick Fuller said using the device during the day time on the commute to work can improve a person’s mental health.

“Tablets allow us to use our time more effectively, for example, when commuting to and from work allowing us to tick off some of those ‘to do’ list items before even arriving at the office or before getting home from work,” he said.

“Technology at our fingertips allows us to plan and organise everything in real time and planning is the key ingredient to a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

“Using your time effectively gives you more time for yourself and your health.”

Dr Fuller said tablets had the potential to keep people’s stress levels down.

“The end result is helping you to manage stress and allowing more time for your physical and mental health,” he said.

But there is one time of the day that screens need to be switched off.

Dr Fuller said: “Just don’t allow them to be an unnecessary distraction. Limit the time when you can use them, for instance don’t use them when eating and don’t use of an evening, after dinner or two hours before bed.”
