A SECURITY alert was triggered close to a Tyson Fury fight at Belfast's Windsor Park after police evacuated homes and "conducted controlled explosions".

Cops were at the scene of what was feared to be a bomb scare close to the park's railway bridge in South Belfast as 25,000 fight fans gathered there for the WBC heavyweight championship.

Northern Ireland police posted on Saturday night: "Police are at the scene of a security alert in south Belfast.

"A number of residents have been evacuated and a number of roads are closed, however, the main Lisburn Road remains open."

While Belfast's Q Radio News tweeted: "Police at the scene of a security alert close to the Windsor Park railway bridge in South Belfast are advising those near the cordon to stay in their homes as "controlled explosions" are carried out."

The scene is close to the footbridge for Windsor Park.

Boxing legend Tyson Fury fought tonight against Francesco Pianeta, setting the champion up for a clash against Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight title.

Featherweight Carl Frampton was also victorious tonight in his hometown after sparring with IBF champ Josh Warrington.
