THE recommended content on your Netflix account comes from a complicated algorithm analysing your viewing history.

And while most of the content is pretty suited to your personal taste, sometimes you just need something a little different.

Thankfully there are a collection of “secret codes” that can be used to unlock hyper-specific genres and content otherwise hidden by the streaming service.

These hyper-specific categories — such as religious documentaries or cerebral French-language dramas from the 1960s — can be easily found be making a small tweak to the following URL: http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/INSERTNUMBER.

All you need to do is simply replace the “INSERTNUMBER” component of the URL with the “secret code” that corresponds to the alternative genre you are trying to explore.

For example: To view all of Netflix’s cerebral French-language dramas simply make the URL http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/2672.

To get you started we have listed three collections of codes below, but the extensive list can be found in entirety here.
