After being one of the first celebrities to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, Rose McGowan has continued to voice her fervent disdain of Hollywood’s power abuse problem on Twitter — but as of Monday, her anger turned from the disgraced director to Meryl Streep.

Following news that actresses were banding together to wear black dresses this awards season as an act of silent protest, McGowan has called out Streep for her role in the Weinstein allegations, calling her actions hypocritical.

Posting to Twitter, McGowan even went as far to suggest the actresses should wear Marchesa — the label founded by Weinstein’s now estranged wife, Georgina Chapman.

“Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @goldenGlobes in a silent protest. YOUR SILENCE is THE problem,” she wrote. “You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa.”

Streep released a statement in October saying she was unaware of Weinstein’s behaviour, despite having worked with him and his production company for many years. Calling the news “disgraceful”, Streep went on to praise the women who had shared their stories, writing “The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes”.

Celebrities including Streep, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone are apparently set on wearing black to the Golden Globes, which will kick off the annual awards season for 2018.

One thing’s for sure, we won’t be seeing McGowan in a black dress any time soon.
