RANDY couples are costing cash-strapped councils a fortune by screaming so loudly during sex that they end up being investigated for noise nuisance.

Today, The Sun provides the most comprehensive breakdown ever of Sex and the Cities across Britain – and can reveal that investigations into the raucous romps cost well over £50,000.

Top of the league for loud sex complaints last year were London’s Lambeth and Newham – along with Manchester – all notching up 12.

The quaint cobbled city of York came in second with 11 reports of super-loud love-making.

Sheffield City Council was forced to spend over £700 probing seven complaints of ear-splitting sex – at a time they’re facing £40million of cuts and could be forced to axe 225 jobs.

Greater London was the worst offending county, with 32 reported cases of sex sirens – and Greater Manchester came in second with 19.

The Sun can reveal there were at least 234 complaints about noisy nuisance bedroom activity across Britain.

It’s enough to make Sex and the City’s Samantha Jones blush – as even she asked her noisy neighbours to keep it down during a bedroom romp in Season Two.

But as councils are said to be at “breaking point” battling severe budget cuts, they’ve been slammed for wasting taxpayers’ money.

James Price, Campaign Manager at the TaxPayers’ Alliance told The Sun: “Many taxpayers will wonder whether councils should spend their money inquiring into residents’ personal lives.

“Not only does this appear to be a waste of taxpayers’ money but it does also seem rather intrusive. Surely councils have more pressing matters to deal with?”

Only 28 councils out of 418 nationally were prepared to divulge the amount they spent investigating amorous couples.

These boroughs blew £3791.35 on their inquiries – meaning the figure nationally would have been around £56,000 if the other councils had supplied their figures.

Amazingly, despite spending tens of thousands on noisy sex investigations, not one person was taken to court in 2017.

In previous years, councils have taken action against offenders.

Gemma Wale, 23, of Birmingham, landed herself in jail after annoying a neighbour with her “screaming and shouting” whilst having sex.

She was given a court order but was later handed a two-week prison sentence in 2015 when she breached the Asbo after the postman and a woman taking her child to school complained.

A neighbour said: “You could hear her screaming and moaning from the other side of the road.”

In 2010, Caroline Cartwright, 49, of Newcastle, breached an Asbo for the fourth time and was given a 12-week prison term, suspended for year.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how complaints about Mrs Cartwright’s “shouting and screaming” during sex while playing loud dance music had been going on for years.
