During the meeting with the sister of Kim Jong-Yin, the President of South Korea offered the DPRK to create a joint team at the Olympics

South Korean media reported on the meeting of President of the country Mun Zhe Ina with a delegation from the DPRK, who arrived at the Olympic Games, including the younger sister of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un Kim Yong Jong. The leader of South Korea offered the DPRK to create a common Olympic team.

In the official residence of the President of South Korea in Seoul, representatives of the host country met with the delegation of the DPRK, who arrived at the 2018 Olympic Games. Among the guests was Kim Yong Jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Yin, who is responsible in his country for issues related to propaganda and agitation. It should be noted that this is the first visit of a representative of the Kim family to South Korea since the moment the country split into two states.

In the process of negotiations, South Korean President Mun Zhe Ying issued an initiative addressed to the DPRK, inviting the members of the North Korean delegation to form a joint team at the Games-2018, the opening ceremony of which was held on February 9. In his opinion, this should make a significant contribution to the "implementation of Olympic values" and the achievement of peace between Seoul and Pyongyang.

From 2000 to 2006, during the Games in Sydney, Athens and Turin, the teams of the DPRK and South Korea performed jointly at the opening ceremonies, leaving the Unification flag depicting the outlines of the unified Korean Peninsula, however, the teams participated in the competitions separately.

During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, North Korean and South Korean athletes also came under the common flag carried by a bobsledder from South Korea, Yong Jeong-won and a hockey player from the DPRK Chung Gum Hwang.

It is worth noting that in early January this year, the first negotiations over several years began between Seoul and Pyongyang concerning the normalization of relations between states. The parties reached an agreement on the formation of a common team at the opening ceremony of the Games-2018.
