MOSCOW, June 20 (RIA Novosti). Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite expressed her readiness to defend herself in the event of a military "invasion" of Russia.

"We must be prepared: mentally, politically, technologically, heart and soul," the president said in an interview with the German magazine Spiegel.

The politician also noted the military superiority of Russia, stressing that the Lithuanians are ready to defend their country against any enemy.

In addition, Grybauskaite believes that Western states underestimate Moscow and treat it excessively gently.

Anti-Russian position Grybauskaite

Dalia Grybauskaite has been President of Lithuania since 2009. In 2014, she was re-elected to this position.

The Lithuanian leader is known for its anti-Russian position. In particular, Grybauskaite repeatedly accused Moscow of preparing "aggression" against the Baltic republics and Western countries. In Moscow they have repeatedly stressed that they do not have any offensive plans, and weapons near the country's borders are placed exclusively for defensive purposes.

Grybauskaite also opposes the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, arguing that it is contrary to the EU's objectives and will increase Europe's dependence on Russian gas.

Trying to make money on Russophobia

According to Igor Shatrov, the political scientist and deputy director of the National Institute for the Development of Modern Ideology, many would forget about the existence of such countries as Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, if not for such statements.

"They did not bring anything to the EU, they are only consumers, and right now, when budgets are on the line, it's likely that the funding program for Eastern European countries will be revised," he said on Sputnik radio.

According to the expert, the financing of the Baltic countries can be cut, "hence the activation of Russophobia not only in the Baltic states, but also in Poland."

"They are afraid that they will not be able to count on EU subsidies and they will have to learn how to earn their own," Shatrov added.

In this case, according to the political scientist, to earn them, except Russophobia, in fact there is nothing.

"Therefore, the Baltic states are happy to provide their territories for the deployment of NATO troops, so there are constant statements about the" Russian threat, "the expert said.

He noted that Grybauskaite speaks for any occasion about the Russian threat.

"This already looks ridiculous, because Lithuania obviously has other worries and problems," Shatrov added.

"But, judging by what the president says, the country has no other worries, except how to prepare for a war with Russia, which would be ridiculous if it were not so sad," the political scientist concluded.
