A MAN who is accused of molesting an eight-year-old girl told police he had assaulted her because “that’s what grandpas do,” according to police.

David Parker, 59, made his victim call him “grandpa” as he attacked her, even though he is not related to the little girl.

According to an affidavit reported by Miami Herald, the child told police how Parker “has done weird things to her body and made her do weird things to his body.”

Parker allegedly sexually attacked the victim while babysitting her and her siblings in Key West, Florida for their parents while they were away in New York.

He reportedly made the child fondle his privates as he lay on her parents’ bed, reported Metro.

He also reportedly abused the girl on another occasion when he drove her to and from a birthday party in Vero Beach, Florida.

An affidavit detailing Parker’s interview with sheriff’s deputies said: “Throughout the entire interview, Parker stated multiple times that he knew every act he committed with (the girl) was wrong and that he felt guilty for his actions.

“It appeared that he was blaming (the girl) for his action, saying he was doing it and continuing to do it to keep her happy because “that is what grandpas do.”

“Then Parker would say (the girl) was not to blame for anything and he is responsible for his actions.”

Parker has now been charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation by an adult of a victim under 12 years old.

He reportedly made the admissions during an interview on December 21, and is being held in Indian River County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
