Obsessed lover jailed for murder after hiring hitman to kill her ex-boyfriend

AN obsessed Sydney woman who paid a hit man to shoot her ex-lover, snuffing out his life in the arms of his fiancee, has been jailed for at least 18 years for the murder.

Louise Catherine Spiteri-Ahern, 27, was found guilty last December of paying Daniel Haile to gun down her ex-boyfriend, Raymond Pasnin, outside his mother’s Pendle Hill home in 2013 following a judge-alone trial.

Mr Pasnin was walking out of the house with his fiancee when a man emerged from the darkness and shot him dead.

In the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, Justice Stephen Rothman sentenced Spiteri-Ahern to 30 years behind bars, with a non-parole period of 18 years, backdated to June 22, 2015.

Haile, who was paid at least $4000 for the murder, was jailed in 2016 for at least 24 years.

The crown contended the woman was motivated by “anger, possessiveness, jealousy, vengeance and hatred” to solicit the shooting.

Mr Pasnin’s fiancee, Lyndal Archbold, told Spiteri-Ahern’s sentence hearing she was shattered she could not protect him from his ex-lover’s “murderous jealousy”.

“I threw my body between Raymond and your hit man to try and save him,” she said.

“That is love. Your love … is murder, manipulation, stalking.”
