A PEDESTRIAN has died after being struck by a police car responding to a 999 call.

The collision took place on the A43 Lumbertubs Way in Northampton at around 4am this morning.

The dual carriageway is currently closed in both directions between the Round Spinney and St Gregory’s Road roundabouts.

A statement issued by the force said: “The collision involved a police car responding to an emergency call, and a pedestrian.

"The road is likely to remain closed for the rest of the morning to allow the emergency services to attend the scene.”

Police said the identity of the victim would not be released until their family had been informed.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes while the road closure is in place.

The case has been referred to police watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
