Thomas Cook says that as well as the hot weather impacting demand for summer breaks, it has had a knock-on effect on demand for winter holidays with bookings down 2% compared to this time last year.

It said it had seen a slow start in the Nordics and Continental Europe which are experiencing some knock-on impact from the hot summer weather.

It said: "This has led us to proactively trim capacity in the Nordics by 5%."
